Thursday, November 1, 2018 Department of Sociology released 103 students to carry out Rural Sociology field course. The field course was held in Tulungagung and attended by Drs. Doddy S. Singgih as the companion lecturer as well as the lecturer for Rural Sociology.
Like previous field courses, the activity was carried out by forming a group. Students were divided into small groups which will be spread throughout the villages and conduct research related to the problems that occur in the directed villages.
Before leaving for the field, students were expected to compile research proposals, instruments and data tabulation. After the preparation, students arrive at the field and collect primary data through direct interviews with the community.
During the occasion, not only did students conducts interviews, they also had the opportunity to interact with the community, village officials, and even be directly involved with the activities within the community. Students can experience firsthand the life of the community and learn with rural communities. Additionally, the field course also trained students to work in teams and under pressure, as well as to respect one another in groups.
“Alhamdulillah, it was very fun and exciting, I learned a lot from the modesty of the villagers and further understood hard work and mutual respect for my fellow classmates,” said Atta, one of the Rural Sociology field course participants.│RAP│
