The single digit poverty target has been sought by the East Java Provincial Government, one of which is through the poverty alleviation program, the Anti Poverty Program (APP). This program has been implemented for 12 years in 17 districts. The program saw a decrease in poverty in East Java. According to BPS records, the poverty rate in East Java in 2009-2017 fell by 5.02%.
What then becomes problematic is that East Java has various poverty programs as aside from APP, there is also Jalin Matra program. Therefore, according to Dr. Septi Ariadi, MA in a meeting with the representatives of East Java’s BAPPEDA on last November 5, 2018, the evaluation of the APP program was necessary to determine the extent of the program’s effectiveness in poverty alleviation.
In order to avoid the overlapping of poverty alleviation programs, East Java’s BAPPEDA felt the need to identify whether the APP program has significantly reduced poverty in East Java. This is why East Java’s BAPPEDA is collaborating with FISIP UNAIR – in this case the Department of Sociology – to conduct an evaluation study.
The goal is to see the effectiveness of APP in reducing poverty in East Java. In addition to that, the results of this study are expected to be a reference point in improving the program so that in the future it will be better as well as a guide in the drafting of RPHMD in East Java, as explained by Arief Tri H as the moderator and representative of East Java’s BAPPEDA at the meeting. │RAP│
